Impressions of South Korea

Thoughts and Digital Pictures

Korea: The country "similar" to Germany.

Korea is split into two parts. South Korea is open to the west and very advanced in technology and standard of living. North Korea is closed up, hardly anybody can enter and I think that they are far behind. There is a wall between the two parts. The South is very clean and orderly, very timely and very precise. South Koreans wear shiny white shirts that are perfectly ironed under exact fitting suits. I think there are quite some similarities to Germany.

I also think Koreans are a little bit closed up in the beginning. They do not just start communication with foreigners. Just like Germans. But if you get to know some of the Koreans more personnally they are such great friends. I always have so much fun in Korea!

The Korean humor is said to be the finest and funniest in the world. Unfortunately some things cannot be translated. It might be good to learn Korean to understand more of their jokes ;-)

The food in Korea is great. I love "bulgogi" which is the Korean barbeque (I even go to bulgogi restaurants in Beijing). Everything is grilled right in front of you and for you only. You can order any kind of beef and any kind of vegtables. You eat it with a red paste and fresh garlic. Korea, also known as the "Land of Kimchi" (or Gimchi). There are hundreds of varieties of kimchi. Most famous is the spicy cabbage, but in Korea you get many other vegtables and roots in the same sour and spicy traditional making (same making as the German "Sauerkraut". There we go, another similarity to Germany).

Seoul is a big city located on the Hanggan River and admidst green hills. There are people biking along the river or even roller blading.

Many Koreans like outdoors, so on the weekends many people from Seoul will go out of Seoul in any direction and hike in the many parks and forests around the city. There are also many rock climbing places around Seoul. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to rock climb there yet. Maybe next time.

I think the Koreans are in general the most beautifull people in Asia. There are so many astoundingly beautiful women and the men are very handsome. Many are also very athletic which makes them have beautiful bodies. Why everybody had to wear life vests at the"water amusement park" (see pictures "Swimming and Bouldering") does not make any sense to me. I thought most of the Koreans can swim...
