Impressions of Hongkong

Thoughts and Digital Pictures

Hongkong: A city and a country.

Hongkong is a busteling city. It might be the most well known Asian city to western people. Most people love the shopping, dining and going out in Hongkong. There are vast possibilities.

If you mention China to many western people they think of Hongkong. But Hongkong is so different.

Hongkong went through a huge financial boom and also through some valleys of downturns. Despite all the foreigners working in Hongkong, doing business in Hongkong or just visiting, Hongkong is still able to keep its' "original Chinese" touch. Most people can speak English, but prefer Cantonese. Shop and street signs usually have the traditional Chinese characters.

The streets in Hongkong are quite narrow (compared to Beijing) with hugh skyscrapers on both sides. (It makes me feel like I am caught in a deep glacier crevasse). Some of them are really ugly run down concrete residential buildings. Others are shiny, glittery office and business buidlings.

Many Hongkong people believe in "Fengshui" and decorate their office and houses according to those guidlines. There is a building where a Fengshui master said in order to make room for the dragen to fly there has to be a whole in the buidling.
